Connecting WhatsApp
Connect with Facebook, keep the Business app, paste an API token, and add more numbers.
Wago sends and receives through the official WhatsApp Business Platform, on a number that belongs to your business. There are two ways to connect one, and an organization can have several numbers. Everything here is in Settings → WhatsApp connection.
Connect with Facebook (recommended)
Connect with Facebook opens Meta's Embedded Signup — Meta's own window, so you sign in to Facebook there, never here.
- Press Connect with Facebook and sign in with the Facebook account that manages your business.
- Choose or create your Meta Business Portfolio and a WhatsApp Business account.
- Choose the number. Either add a new number for the Cloud API, or pick a number you already use in the WhatsApp Business app to keep using it there (see coexistence).
- Finish in Meta's window. Wago subscribes to the account, registers a new number, and the number appears in the list.
That is all — the webhook, the permanent token and the registration are done for you. Send a message to the number from your own phone; it should show up in Conversations within seconds.
Keep the WhatsApp Business app (coexistence)
If you pick a number from the WhatsApp Business app in step 3, you keep using the app on your phone and Wago at the same time, on the same number.
- What you type on the phone is filed in the same thread in Wago, marked as sent from the WhatsApp Business app. Workflows never answer those — they are yours.
- Your phone's contacts are added to the contact book. A contact you delete on the phone stays in Wago; nothing you agreed to keep is wiped from somewhere else.
- Recent chats are imported in the right order, without reopening or closing anyone's 24-hour window.
Add with an API token
If you already have a Meta app with WhatsApp set up, choose Add with API token and paste three values: the Phone Number ID, the WhatsApp Business Account ID and a permanent access token. The help button on the WhatsApp connection page walks through Meta's screens in order; in short:
- Create a Meta Business Portfolio at business.facebook.com and start Business Verification early — it takes days.
- At developers.facebook.com create a Business app and set up the WhatsApp product.
- Add your number under WhatsApp → API Setup, choose a display name and verify the number by SMS or call.
- Copy the Phone Number ID (not the phone number) and the WhatsApp Business Account ID.
- In Business Settings → System Users, add an admin system user, give it your app and WhatsApp account,
and generate a token that never expires with
whatsapp_business_messagingandwhatsapp_business_management. - Under WhatsApp → Configuration, set the webhook callback URL to
https://wago.crawlink.com/api/v1/webhooks/whatsapp(the verify token comes from your Wago administrator) and subscribe tomessagesandmessage_template_status_update. - Paste the three values into Wago and save. Then Settings → Templates → Sync WhatsApp — if your templates appear, all three are right.
Several numbers
Both buttons add a number; they never replace one. The WhatsApp connection page lists every number in the organization, and each row's menu offers Edit API token, Make default and Remove.
- Answers with — pick a workflow for that number. If none is set, the organization's main workflow answers.
- Default — the number new conversations, campaigns and templates use unless you choose another.
- A conversation remembers the number it came in on, and your replies always go out from that number.
How the connection is kept
The access token is encrypted before it is stored and is never sent to a browser — the console only knows that a token exists. It is decrypted only at the moment Wago calls WhatsApp.
If a number is disconnected
If someone removes Wago from inside Meta's tools, Meta tells Wago and the number is marked as disconnected, so the page asks you to reconnect instead of failing quietly. Connect it again with the same button; the existing conversations stay where they are.
